A national program run by Aluma since 2012, Hesegim (“Accomplishments”) targets young people from Israel’s social and geographic periphery, with an emphasis on first-generation university and college students. Recognizing that, for many, the road to higher education is made harder by systemic barriers, a lack of information, and the absence of a support system, the program helps young people while they are still considering whether to apply.

Hesegim currently operates in 35 localities across Israel and is run by professional coordinators working in local youth centers. The program includes one-on-one counseling, help with choosing a course of study, preparation for academia, and support throughout the first year of studies — a critical stage when the dropout risk is higher.

This reflects Aluma’s overall intervention approach: we connect young people to opportunities through community presence and tailored support, using our unique understanding of the social and cultural context in which the choice to pursue higher education is made.
