If you have never used Zoom or any other digital platform for remote meetings, it&#8217;s a good idea to prepare in advance for what will be expected of you. We&#8217;ve gathered a few recommendations so you can get ready for the possibility of online learning &#8211; and make the most of it.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Finding the right study corner &#8211;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It may sound a bit obvious, but it&#8217;s worth thinking about your study environment. Here&#8217;s what to consider:<\/p>\n<p><u>Choosing your study environment<\/u><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A quiet space<\/li>\n<li>A good internet connection<\/li>\n<li>Suitable lighting<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Setting up your study space<u> <\/u><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Make sure you have a comfortable chair<\/li>\n<li>Keep your desk clear, with study essentials only<\/li>\n<li>Remove distractions like your phone from the desk<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Getting ready for class &#8211;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>How can we stay engaged and keep our focus?<\/p>\n<p>Before class:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Skim through the previous lesson and the upcoming one, as they appear in the syllabus. It&#8217;s also a good idea to have the lesson slides in front of you during class.<\/li>\n<li>Eat and drink before\/during class. Feelings of hunger and thirst impair thinking, concentration and memory.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>During class:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>During class, it&#8217;s important to write notes on the slides, summarize key points and jot down questions that pop into your head.<\/li>\n<li>Ask questions during class &#8211; asking questions keeps you sharp! Don&#8217;t be shy &#8211; there are surely students your question has helped<\/li>\n<li>Turn your camera on! &#8211; It&#8217;s much easier to stay present when people can see you.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Breaks<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Especially in an online class &#8211; you must take a break and refresh!!<\/p>\n<p>The brain needs rest between classes to process information. Recharge yourselves with rest, some physical movement, fresh air outside or nourishing food.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Study friends in online learning<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Even when studying online, you can still learn together! How do you do that when learning remotely?<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Try to create a study group on Zoom<\/li>\n<li>Find friends who live nearby and study together<\/li>\n<li>If the campus is open &#8211; meet at the library or the cafeteria<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>What will you gain?
